The oldest technology

battery. The problem with the NiCd cell phone battery is the requirement
to fully discharge it every time to supposedly avoid "memory
effect". Memory effect is a controversial subject as far as exactly
what it is, but most people regard it as the battery "remembering"
the point at which it usually gets recharged, and therefore showing
a voltage drop at that point, which will any equipment which reacts
to voltage drop to signal the need for a charge.
The other major
drawback to the NiCd cell phone battery is the fact that the nickel
used in this battery is toxic to the environment, presenting a disposal
problem. For the above reasons, NiCd cellular batteries are being
phased out with better cellular phone battery technologies which are
more long-lasting, easier to maintain and less toxic. We will discuss
them in following articles.
